On the Security of Networked Control Systems in Smart Vehicle and Its Adaptive Cruise Control

With the benefits of Internet Vehicles (IoV) paradigm, come along unprecedented security challenges. Among many applications inter-connected systems, vehicular networks and smart cars are examples that already rolled out. Smart vehicles not only have connecting their internal components e.g. via Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, but also connected to outside world through road side units other vehicles. In some cases, external network packets pass same hardware merely isolated by software defined rules. Any misconfiguration opens a window for hackers intrude into vehicles' central lock system, Engine Control Unit (ECU), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) or Adaptive Cruise (ACC) system. Compromise any these can lead disastrous outcomes. this paper, we study adaptive cruise control systems in presence covert attacks. We define two covert/stealth attacks context propose novel intrusion detection compensation method disclose respond such More precisely, focus on cyber compromise integrity controller employ neural identifier IDS engine estimate system output dynamically compare it against ACC output. If anomaly is detected, an embedded substitute kicks takes over control. conducted extensive experiments MATLAB evaluate effectiveness proposed scheme simulated environment.
